Summer is always characterized by increased tropical diseases originating mosquitoes. If in Indonesia increase occurred in dengue cases, South and Central America have a different problem that chikungunya.
Chikungunya known to have infected countries in the Caribbean, Central America, and the United States. In fact, nearly 30,000 cases of chikungunya occurred in less than one year in El Salvador, a Central American country that borders Mexico.
Seeing this phenomenon, Deputy Minister of Health of Mexico field Disease Prevention, Pablo Kuri, said abhwa is not likely to be found cases of chikungunya in Mexico. Even thought the first chikungunya cases may occur in the near future.
"It is likely that in the near future we will have the first case of chikungunya. There is no particular reason that makes Mexico can escape the threat of this disease. We must remain vigilant," Kuri said, quoted by Reuters on Thursday (10/16/2014).
Recent reports say that there are already six people allegedly attacked by chikungunya in Mexico. To six people are currently receiving treatment in hospital and blood samples have been taken to find out whether they really developing chikungunya or not.
As known earlier, Chikungunya is a disease transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, a mosquito which also transmit dengue. Typically, these mosquitoes are vulnerable to attack in the afternoon.
Chikungunya itself is not fatal, and very little risk of causing death. Only, chikungunya patients usually feel high fever, severe headache and pain in the joints. In fact, this pain can be felt for months.
